Welcome to Family Law Matters. I’m Dr. Michael Mantel and it’s always a privilege to be joining Bonnie Rabinovitch-Mantel, the owner and managing partner of the Primus Family Law Group. Hi, Bonnie.
Hi, Michael. How are you doing today? Doing well, thank you for asking. Bonnie, one of the things that’s come up in the last week or so with a client has been the issue of how to really distance from a former marital partner.
A person actually wants to change her name and I’m sure this is something that you and Primus Family Law Group deal with. What insights can you share when someone wants to change their last name? Well, if they didn’t do it, if this is a divorce situation and they didn’t take their maiden name back as part of the judgment, well then there’s a process that you follow after. There’s forms to fill out, there’s documents that need to be processed with the court and we do those regularly for people who need it, whether or not it’s getting back their maiden name or let’s say they have a name and they just want to change it.
You can legally change your name when you’re an adult to anything you want and we do those as well. Sometimes those are a little more complicated. Whether it involves a divorce or not? Correct.
Yeah, right, that’s the key, right. So even if someone is not divorcing, they just decided they’d like a better last name, they want a new name. Yes.
And they can be in touch with Primus Family Law and you can guide them through the legal steps to do that. And it’s not expensive. We do them routinely, so at least we can offer it at a package rate because we know the forms already and the steps and we take care of the filing fees and all of that so that you guys can just focus on doing what you do while we get your name changed.
Right. If people have questions about this, how can they be in touch with you? You can reach us at 619-574-8000 or on our website at www.primusfamilylaw.com.
